Mom to Be Mother’s Day Card From Plaid

This is the cutest idea for an expectant mom. I must admit that the colors a bit too bright for my taste, but the idea is just adorable. It’s especially nice for someone who’s almost due and probably feeling a teensy bit blue at the thought of missing Mother’s Day by a few weeks this […]

Saying for Mother’s Day Card

Well, I am on my 4th attempt to make my mom’s card and the only thing I like is the saying:
Children bloom from a Mother’s love like precious flowers. This time, I didn’t like the way the glue showed through the tissue paper and tried coloring the background to disguise the glue streaks. Ick. I […]

Plaid’s Bohemian Mother’s Day Card

This Mother’s Day card from Plaid uses All Night Media stamps and watercolor pencils to create a colorful background. Pop dots create the raised effect of the two extra paisley swirls.
(If you really need to get a card done fast, I’ve seen scrapbook papers that look very similar. Instant background.)

Stamped or Store Bought?

My grandmother thinks that rubber stamped cards are less special than storebought ones, so we always buy her a card. However, my mom knows that handmade cards take a lot more effort and planning. I thought a poll on the subject would be kind of fun:

Do you make your Mother’s and Father’s Day cards or […]

What Does Mother’s Day Mean to You?

One of the members of MomGadget’s forum is having a blog carnival for Mother’s Day and was asking what Mother’s Day means to me. Well, as I was thinking about the question, I realized that Mother’s Day is coming up fast and I have no idea what to get my mother, who insists she has […]

You Can’t Rush Art

I’ve been working on a few canvases for I don’t even want to know how long and finished some today. I needed a break and a cup of tea, but I decided to rush out while there wasn’t a breeze and spray a coat of sealer over a canvas that was dry. Well, I grabbed […]

Bind It All System

I’ve been thinking about doing some fat books that are a mix of favorite family recipes, special memories and a bit of genealogy as gifts for everyone in my family this Christmas. Then, I priced binding at Kinkos and some of the other options and realized it would be expensive to have them bound and […]

Totally Off Topic - My Brother is So Sweet

I was rummaging around in the kitchen this morning looking for anything chocolate. No luck. I came home from work to see this note resting on top of a mound of delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies:

Isn’t he the best?

Technique Tuesday - Melted Crayon Background

Ok, the secret to making this type of melted crayon background is a vegetable peeler. Seriously. Head for the kitchen drawer. You’ll also need crayons, waxed paper, an iron, a metallic ink pad and a canvas. Watercolor paper works fine, but I used an actual canvas for this one.
1. Shave your crayons right onto the […]
