Stamping Mad

Art Supply Sunday - PanPastels

by Katelyn on December 23rd, 2007

panpastels intro packIf you enjoy using pastels in your artwork, but it is hard for you to apply the necessary pressure to work with traditional stick pastels or you want a pastel that acts more like a paint, you will love the new PanPastels by Colorfin. I bought two tubs the other day and was really happy with how easily they spread. These introductory packs came with some spreading tools, too.

How can I explain the consistency of the pastels and the way the spreading tools look? Imagine makeup for your art. The pastels are as soft as those creamy eye shadows and the tools look and feel a bit like makeup sponges. I really do like them and think they will come in handy when I am coloring in stamped images, but I think there is still a place for traditional pastels in my studio.

You can use the PanPastels with traditional pastel formats, as well as watercolors and acrylics. However, the directions warn that you should not get the pastels still in the pan wet, so use caution when mixing mediums - use a separate tool to get more color from the pan.
