Stamping Mad

Bubble Backgrounds

by Katelyn on January 15th, 2007

When I read about making bubble backgrounds in the Autumn issue of Artella, I couldn’t wait to try making some. With all the hectic holiday stuff, we didn’t get around to it until today. We had so much fun doing this project. You need to fill a shallow container about half full with bubbles and then add a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of food coloring. Stir it up and blow some bubbles with a straw. Lay your paper on the bubbles. We ran out of real bubbles before we had a container for each color, so we poured about a tablespoon of dish detergent in the other containers and added water til they were half full. We had to add more food coloring several times before we liked the results.

Of course, since I was doing this with the little guy, we got carried away with blowing bubbles and made bubble worlds, so we didn’t do a lot of backgrounds, but the ones we did do turned out pretty neat. If you do this with kids, wear old clothes and make sure any surrounding surfaces are easy to clean. Those bubbles landed everywhere.
