Caring for Ink Pads

by Katelyn on October 22nd, 2007

inked handprintInk pads can be quite expensive. I’ve seen the specialty pads with price tags of over ten dollars on them. If you have ten or twenty pads, that is a substantial chunk of change. It makes sense to care for your investment to help them last as long as possible. Here are a few tips on caring for ink pads:
* Store solid colored pads upside down to keep ink near the surface. Do not do this with rainbow pads or the colors will bleed together.
* Never store ink pads on their sides. The ink will run off the pad and pool beside it, which doesn’t just make a mess. It also wastes ink.
* If you are buying a favorite color ink pad, be sure to buy a re-inker at the same time. This way, you can make sure that you get the right color and brand.
* Always close the lid of your ink pad as soon as you are finished inking your stamps. This prevents a mess if you drop the pad by accident and keeps it from drying out.
