Cherished Memories Fat Book Charity Auction
I’ve finally managed to finish the cover of the fat book that will be auctioned off for Alzheimer’s research. Here is a scan of the bound book. Since it is so thick, I really had trouble getting a decent scan, so I think I will try taking a few photos, too. I’ve added fibers and a rusty heart to the binding, so there is a lot going on, but that is the charm of fat books.
I thought I’d also share why I wanted to make the book:
I have a family member who cared for his mom, who had Alzheimer’s, at home for ten years. Then, he cared for his dad, who developed dementia during his mom’s last year, for another two years. I wanted to honor his love and devotion to his parents and try to do something to help other families avoid the heartbreak of caring for a family member who doesn’t even know who they are. My personal copy of this fat book is going to him this Christmas as a special commemorative gift.
By the way, BabyLune is having a Generous December contest and the winner will receive a donation to a favorite charity. If you have a blog, please join her contest and encourage others to support Alzheimer’s research.

Fat books are usually 4 inches by 4 inches and are created by artists who love to embellish their pages. The end result is a book that is quite chunky from all the fibers, charms, etc. This is where the term fat book comes from.
