Choosing Colors Book Review

by Katelyn on September 24th, 2007

Are you overwhelmed by the thought of selecting the right colors to create an attractive project? If so, you’ll want to take a look at Choosing Colors by Kevin McCloud. Whether you’re painting your home or creating a craft project, this book is a wonderful aid for creating a beautiful, cohesive finished project. The book includes over 60 palettes of colors that look fantastic together, which completely removes the guesswork and worry. In fact, flipping through Choosing Colors is kind of like having Martha Stewart at your elbow to consult with you on your color choices.

What I liked:
- Great photos. They are big, clear and filled with color.
- Swatch pages. Choose a favorite shade of blue, green, etc. from one of these pages. Then, find the palette it belongs to and design a room or project around that palette, using your swatch as the dominant color.
- Categories. Don’t have a favorite color, but really want to recreate a certain era or evoke a certain theme’s feel? There are categories for 1920’s, 1950’s, etc.

Overall, this is an exceptional book. I’ve got several color books in my collection, but this one is by far the most useful and well organized. A must for someone redoing a house or putting together colors for an art or craft project.
