Etsy Overview - Making Money with Rubber Stamps Series

by Katelyn on September 2nd, 2007

I keep meaning to talk about Etsy as a way for people to make money with their rubber stamp art and I haven’t gotten around to it. Today, I was listing a few things and thought I’d talk about Etsy while I was at it. I’ve just started to use Etsy, but I’ve learned a lot. Here are a few tips for success:
* There’s a lot of competition and I think you need to heavily promote your shop to do well.
* List items frequently. This helps you take advantage of the front page listings and makes it more likely that you will have something that appeals to people browsing your shop.
* Offer free or cheap shipping for buyers in your country.
* I don’t do this, but I should - offer shipping options for other countries. I will when I figure out the different shipping rates.
* Offer a variety of price points.
* Kits or supplies do well. Be sure you adhere to Etsy’s rules before listing them, though.
* Customizing your shop is easy and really helps it look nice. My shop’s customized header matches my neglected personal crafting blog. If you aren’t handy with graphics, you can buy custom shop banners from Charming Elements, Scarlet Beautiful, or Altered Abbey. I saw a ton of other shops offering banners, too.

So, if you’ve been thinking about selling some of your art, give Etsy a try. It really was easy and listings only cost twenty cents each.
