Stamping Mad

Inchies

by Katelyn on March 6th, 2007

Crafter #1: “Oooh, did you see those inchies?”
Crafter #2: “Inchies? What are inchies?”

I’m glad she asked. Inchies are a wonderful, fun new art form that has mixed media artists everywhere reaching for their bifocals. These miniature collages are only one inch by one inch in size, but they pack quite an artistic punch. I recently participated in an inchies swap and the creativity was amazing!

Few of the artists who participated used rubber stamps, but that doesn’t mean that stampers shouldn’t embrace this medium. Think of all those tiny rubber stamps languishing in your drawers. Ladybugs, tiny hearts, geometric designs…

Here are the inchies from the swap I recently participated in:
Inchie Swap
Participants are listed in order of their art: Cecilia, Carmen, Sue, AJ, Amber, Pat M, Angie, Lia, Loretta, Pat B, Irrenay, Cynthia, Lucy, Beth, Diana, Emily, Belinda, Suzy, Nea, Sheryl, Ulrike, Gillian, Mary, Sharie and Katelyn. (If you’d like your last name listed or a link to your website, please let me know and I’ll add the info.)

Very nice. :) For what it’s worth, this approach has been around for a bit, though they used to have a less interesting name: “serendipity squares.” Search for that online and you’re bound to turn up some older content :)

Thanks Valerie. I’ll have to check them out. I guess that saying about there being nothing new under the sun is true!

Are most of these decoupaged or painted or something else? It’s a new concept to me.

    Hi Anita,
Almost all of these are mini mixed media collages, but some were painted. You can stamp them, too.
