Make Art Monday - Everglade Beauty
I did use stamps on this piece, but they got covered up completely by all the layers of acrylic and lace. Everglade Beauty is based on the lovely blue herons I was watching the other day. I started a series called Chesapeake Blue that features herons, but remembered that I had this background and got sidetracked. This piece started life as a piece of tagboard that I let the kids paint on. They put a ton of pink and baby blue paint on it and it dried with great texture, but looked hideous. So, I applied a layer of copper, including the copper stamped fern that completely vanished as I continued to work. I used a credit card to spread a layer of thin red acrylic and glued down the lace.
As I looked at the background, I started to think about the heron and sketched him in. I used a white out pen, crayons and permanent marker to color in the image.
