Making Holes in CDs for Stamping Projects

by Katelyn on November 18th, 2006

I broke so many CDs when I started making altered art stamping projects with them. Then, I found out that heating them slightly with a heat gun makes it easy to poke a hole in them. You can also drill a hole with a Dremel tool without having them shatter. If you do heat up a CD, make sure you are in a well ventilated area. They have a bit of an odor to them.

Once you have a hole at one end of a CD, you can thread a piece of wire through the hole to make a hanger. Then, collage it to make a gorgeous ornament for your tree. I usually cover up the center hole, but a lot of people leave it open.

I’ve found that you can also heat them in the microwave as long as they’re in a water bath. Wouldn’t try it without the water though…sparks fly! Don’t ask me how I know this LOL!!

    Hi Cyndi,
I heard that, too, but I was afraid to try it. Since you’re still alive, I think I’ll give it a try.

Hey, no problem! Anytime you need someone to stick their finger in the socket first, I’m your girl :-D
