Rubberstamping with Bleach

by Katelyn on November 9th, 2006

Have you ever wanted to create an elegant, understated card with an image that is a slightly lighter shade of your cardstock color? Perhaps you’ve seen some of these cards and wondered how the rubberstamping artist found an ink that was so perfect for the cardstock. The answer is in your laundry room.

To make a stamped image that is a few shades lighter than your cardstock, pour a little bleach onto a layer of absorbent paper towels. “Ink” your stamp with the bleach and stamp it onto your cardstock. The color will fade where you stamped your image. Wash the bleach off of your rubber stamp as soon as you are done stamping with the bleach, as bleach can destroy the rubber. By the way, I haven’t tried it yet, but I hear that the new Clorox Bleach Pen really is a great tool for stamping.

* A quick warning before we leave the topic of stamping with bleach - if you are allergic to chlorine, don’t try it. Get someone else to stamp your images with bleach for you or use a different technique.
