Stamp on a Cake, Cupcake, or Cookie!

by Nikki Katz on July 10th, 2005

Have you ever thought about stamping on a cake, cupcake, or cookie? It’s a fun way to add decorative touches, and continue a theme you may have started in sending out invitations or stamping thank you cards.

If you’re using buttercream frosting, ice the cake first and let it to set (preferably overnight) before stamping. Gently stamp the image onto the cake using frosting or food coloring (some say the paste works best). You can color in the image(s) as needed.

If you’re using rolled fondant frosting, you can stamp the image on the frosting while it is flat, before rolling it on. This makes the sides much easier to handle. As above, gently stamp the image using frosting or food coloring.

Another option is to purchase rice paper and stamp the images on the paper. Color it in and then lay the paper on the cake. The paper will dissolve into the icing and leave a beautiful stamped sentiment.

To apply the frosting, you can either use a brush or spoon, or you can create a “stamp pad” with a damp paper towel or uninked pad. You can test out a variety of colors and techniques to see what works best for you! Good luck and happy stamping.
