I know I’ve talked about paper patchwork quilt pieces before, but this is just about backgrounds. If you are like me and you make 9×12 backgrounds that are cut down for different ATC and fat book projects, then you have a ton of little pieces that are about an inch wide left over. They’re too pretty to throw away, but too small for anything else, including inchies if your 9×12 paper sheets are more like 8.9×11.9 like mine always seem to be.

So, you find a scrap piece of cardboard or unwanted paper, apply a liberal layer of gel medium or your favorite adhesive and put down strips until the whole base layer is covered with them. Put it under something heavy so it drys nice and flat and you have a great background for other projects. If you scan it, it is really nice for digital projects, too.

After it is dry, you can try other things, like spraying on a bit of walnut ink and wiping it off, stamping over the whole thing with a home decor stamp, or applying a thin glaze of metallic paint to it. This really makes the pieces blend together to form one harmonious background.
