Technique Tuesday - Traci Bautista Backgrounds
I’ve been working on backgrounds inspired by Traci Bautista this week. I wasn’t terribly fond of using paper towels as she recommends, so I went with decorative papers that held up when they were wet. I also followed her directions for experimenting with fabric, which never would have occurred to me, but turned out really nice.
This is only the first step in her instructions, but some of these seem too pretty to do anything else to. Here’s what we did:
First we filled containers with different colors of watercolor inks watered down.
We wet the fabric and paper and wrung them out a bit. Then we folded them up into small squares or triangles and dipped them into the different color containers until they were completely colored.
We laid the colored pieces on sheets of watercolor paper and rolled over them.
adding shapes and stamps to roll over really made the backgrounds fun.
