Thursday Thought - An Artist Has No Freedom
Willa Cather says, “Every artist knows that there is no such thing as “freedom” in art. The first thing an artist does when he begins a new work is to lay down the barriers and limitations; he decides upon a certain composition, a certain key, a certain relation of creatures or objects to each other.”
I don’t think she is completely right. After all, the artist does have freedom to decide on the barriers and limitations. However, it is true that an artist does create boundaries for a piece of art once he or she begins to work on it.

The artist also has the freedom to change, extend or alter the boundaries or limitations of a piece at any point in the creative process.
