What is an ATC and Why Would I Want One?
Since I posted about an ATC yesterday, I thought telling you what they are would be a nice follow up. ATC stands for Artist Trading Card. It is a small work of art that measures 2.5 x3.5 inches. (The size of a baseball card.) An ATC is meant to be traded with other artists or given away. You should never sell one of these little works of art, especially if it was given to you by another artist.
ATCs are for any artist. I’ve seen pastels, caligraphy, rubber stamps, textiles and collage materials on these little cards. While most artists are delighted that more and more people are finding out about Artist Trading Cards, some express concern over the way this art form is being embraced by the mainstream craft world. They’ve been on craft shows, in books and even library training sessions. (Much to the dismay of my non-artistic coworker, who had to make one for her first session…)
For more info:
Art in Your Pocket has a very nice article on creating ATCs. I also suggest finding a copy of Artist Trading Cards Workshop at your local library.

I created a few of these through ArtCardsWanted.com and posted about them earlier this month. I am beginning to see that trying to sell them is slightly problematic. I do enjoy giving them away though. I find that they are a nice way to help build traffic for my blog too.
here is the link to some of my posts about this phenomenon

William,
I actually have another post scheduled for tomorrow on selling art cards. It’s great to hear about your experience.
